This a very big piece in it's time there were many pieces made about the revolutionary war and this art piece in particular. Shows the way John Trumbull felt about the war this showed his political point of view on the war as well as the way he depicted it. John Trumbull witnessed the war from afar looking through field glasses. During John Trumbull time in the service he drew maps for George Washington and was maid personal aid to the General later on. One detail stuck out to me is how the dark clouds in the upper right of the painting seems to overshadow the British. Compared to the colonist side which is much lighter , which may be portraying good vs evil as this is what John Trumbull saw. I think this pieces overall attention to detail really shows how powerful this painting this was to the colonist who laid down there lives to go to a place of freedom back in the day. The emotions shown in this is the power of people fighting for freedom and the sadness and happiness that go's along with war. Would I have a copy of this? As cool of a piece this is I still probably wouldn't cause I don't know where I would put it haha. An appropriate place I think would be like a war museum which would just make the most since to me.

The Battle of Princeton by James Peale 1782 located in the Princeton University of Art Museum and is a oil painting.           https://www.americanrevolutioninstitute.org/treasures-of-the-american-revolution/revolutionary-war-paintings/

This painting meant a lot to the American Revolutionary war as this painting is of the very first battlefield victory for George Washington. James Peale was a member of a renowned family of artist, James fought in the war and served as first lieutenant in the first Maryland regiment at the battle. This part of the battle was so powerful James Peal depicted this moment from memory. The amount of detail that is put in to the American uniforms the cannon firing and especially the detail that is used in George Washington's and the color used in the horse is phenomenal. This was huge battle for the war showing the commander in chief of the continental Army could lead his men into battle and become victorious as well as be on the battlefield to do so. The colors used in this is amazing the colors on the American soldiers uniforms and the flag is amazing. James Peale really tried to make the Americans look as in moment as he could.  This piece relates to the first piece I choose as it is also about the American Revolutionary war. Would I own this piece? As amazing as this painting is I still don't think I would own it as I don't know where I would place it in my home. I think this painting is great where it is at the Princeton University of Art but a War museum would also be a very cool place.

Battle of Paoli by Xavier della Gatta, 1782 found in the Museum of the American Revolution     https://www.americanrevolutioninstitute.org/treasures-of-the-american-revolution/revolutionary-war-paintings/

This more of a brutal painting as the Battle of Paoli was a massacre on September 20-21, 1777, the British light dragoons and infantrymen attacked. It was a sneak attack on the General Anthony's Wayne's division of the continental which were camped northwest of Philadelphia in a field. The Americans were in a exposed position and most of them were massacred by the British. The light dragoons are seen on this painting as the men on horseback they used long sabers to inflict more damage at the battle of Paoli. This is a very weird painting as night war paintings are unusual however Xavier della Gatta did a amazing jobs. The detail in the light colors of the flame make the painting bright enough to see the amazing details in the soldiers. I also notice the amazing colors used in uniforms I like the way they seem a little darker because of darkness of night and the tiny flames that show you what is going on. Would I own this painting? I don't think I would, it is a amazing piece but it's also about a massacre and dark. The best place for this painting I think is where it is at which is the Museum of the American Revolution.
