Created by Sandro Botticelli "The Birth of Venus"
I have chosen this piece of art from the Italian Renaissance because I like the piece of art because of it's intricate detail and meaning. This painting was created by Sandro Botticelli in 1482. Sandro Botticelli was commissioned by the Medici Family of Florence. This painting represents a classic roman myth Venus the goddess of love has been born from the sea and is gently being blown to shore by Zephyrus the god of the winds. This piece also represents humanism during the Renaissance which places value on the individual human. Botticelli used tempera and oil on a poplar panel to create this masterpiece. This painting can be found at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy. Sandro Botticelli was born in 1445 and died in 1510.
The first art element I noticed in this piece of art is shape. The shapes that Sandro Botticelli created helps create the allusion of movement in the painting. The anatomy of the human body also is depicted quite well in this painting. The second art element I noticed in this painting is the use of color and value. The hue of colors in this painting gives it a softness and the value of the colors give the painting contrast. The third art element I noticed was the use of line work. I think it is most noticeable in the middle woman's hair; it gives it fluidity and actually makes it look like it is blowing in the wind. I personally would own a copy as I find this piece very interesting and beautiful. I also really enjoy the mythology behind it.

Thank you for the background of this piece, that was an interesting read. I think this piece is appealing because of the vibrant colors that were used and the story it tells. I agree that it represents Humanism because of the detail that was put into the human bodies.
